Computer software

Computer software, or just software, is a collection of computer programs and related data that provide the instructions for telling a computer what to do and how to do it. In other words, software is a conceptual entity which is a set of computer programs, procedures, and associated documentation concerned with the operation of a data processing system. We can also say software refers to one or more computer programs and data held in the storage of the computer for some purposes. In other words software is a set of programs, procedures, algorithms and its documentation. Programsoftware performs the function of the program it implements, either by directly providing instructions to the computer hardware or by serving as input to another piece of software. The term was coined to contrast to the old term hardware (meaning physical devices). In contrast to hardware, software "cannot be touched". Software is also sometimes used in a more narrow sense, meaning application software only. Sometimes the term includes data that has not traditionally been associated with computers, such as film, tapes, and records.

Written programs or procedures or rules and associated documentation pertaining to the operation of a computer system and that are stored in read/write memory; Software is the prepared or designed programs package to handle the certain task. The small unit of the s\w is command or code. It important to the computer system and it works as language and brain for the computer hardware. Computer is nothing more without software and it can’t perform any task without it. There are mainly two types of software;   (a) system software   (b) application software. System software is developed for running the system programs like system loading, mounting, installing, shut down etc.  It is developed by the manufacturing company and it need specific language to write it; on another hand application software is a package to perform certain task like ms-access for database, power point for animation of text and picture etc. thus software play important role in computer science sectors.
